A unique opportunity to experience excerpts from Robert Zielinski’s Kiangardarup (TorbaySuite) and other original pieces inspired by WA’s Great Southern region. Robert lived in Torbay working as a violin maker for several years. He will be joined on the night by Melinda Forsythe - cello, Manuela Centanni - wooden flute and Melbourne based bouzouki player Jim Green.
Kiangardarup – Meaning Kangaroo place comes from the country of the Minang people. An intensely evocative piece that takes the listener on a journey, from the awakening dawn through the heat of the day, to dusk and a still night spent under the Karri forest and stars. This journey finishes by the coals and flames of a campfire.
On Sunday 12th May they will premiere it in its entirety in the Perth Concert Hall. The Suite was first performed in Denmark's Brave New Works festival in 2019 and received a standing ovation. Since then forgotten parts have been reunited and the album will be released later in 2024.
