The Friends of ANZAC Cottage invite you to a very special family friendly event commemorating International War Animal Day, featuring the award-winning creative team behind Simpson and His Donkey.
The book, Simpson and his Donkey, traces the boyhood friendship of John Simpson Kirkpatrick from his home in Northeast England, where they walked donkeys for a penny a ride during summer holidays – to the battlefield of Gallipoli. It is the story of a man and his brave little donkey and a strange twist of fate that brought two friends together one last time.
Mark Greenwood, author and Frané Lessac, illustrator will be discussing this memorable book and conducting associated activities along with book-signing. Their books, Simpson and his Donkey and Midnight the Story of a Light Horse will be available for purchase.
In addition, there will be a short service commemorating the faithful creatures who saved lives and comforted those so far from home.
This event will be held at historic ANZAC Cottage, 38 Kalgoorlie Street , Mount Hawthorn on February 24 from 4 pm to 6 pm. Entry is free. Bookings not necessary.
