Perth Folk and Roots Club is back in central Perth at Tattersalls Folk and Roots at the Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club on Thursday 9th June 2022 with the support of the Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club and City of Perth. The performances are from 6pm to 9pm at Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club, 2 Plain Street, Perth. For this event, Perth Folk and Roots Club has Nick Vulture on tour from South Australia and Clandestine. Events are free and meals are available through The Kitchen on Cambridge, the in-house caterer who will be providing meals for the event.

‘Perth Folk and Roots Club is back in the heart of Perth with the support of City of Perth and the Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club with South Australian musician Nick Vulture launching his new album and hills outfit Clandestine‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Nick Vulture is a South Australian who will be in Perth launching his first full length solo album, Dust Off The Sails. The album has spent 5 weeks straight on the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (AMRAP) charts since its release. Nick has moved into being a solo musician, far removed from his roots in the garage punk scene of Adelaide, with his band The Molting Vultures. This is melancholy acoustic folk done raw and stripped back to its very core. It taps into the emotions of someone searching for answers and questioning everything. The songs are personal but also instantly relatable in that they reflect the general fragility of the human condition with all of its uncertainty, its cruelty and its beauty. Taking his cues from artists such as Conor Oberst, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Justin Townes Earle, John Prine and Phoebe Bridgers, Nick has been honing his skills across Australia and has played The Semaphore Music Festival (twice) in Adelaide, the Adelaide Fringe Festival as well as the best venues in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Cairns.

Clandestine are a hills-based group led by someone familiar to Perth Folk and Roots Club, Sian Johanna. Sian was previously with Booby Trap and Danse Macabre that have made several performances at the Club and she writes folk-songs that encompass a mixture of grit and heart. Possessing a song writing style that owes as much to Iron and Wine as it does to John Prine and Gillian Welch, Clandestine tip their hats and take their cues from genres such as Alt-Country, Americana and Bluegrass, taking pride in the delivery of soaring vocal harmonies. Clandestine has been performing locally at the Parkerville Tavern, Leederville Songwriter's Club, Jarrahfall Folk Festival and the Araluen Summer Sundowner amongst a host of others, ably supporting The Hunting Birds, Dan Howls, Justin Walshe Folk Machine and The Holy Smoke. Shaun Coffey plays rock-solid bass lines and vocal harmonies. Eclectic lead guitar is played by the legendary Jon Elbery, a talented multi-instrumentalist hailing from the UK. Last but not least, the percussive actions of Ruth Goncalves on the cajon, along with a mixture of various percussive tools, bring it all together and help Clandestine build their musical stories.

‘As always we are also looking for up and coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience’, Keith added.
